Quilting Brain Dump

(for the beginner)

Quilting is a craft that involves sewing together pieces of fabric to create a quilt. It is a great way to use up fabric scraps and make something unique and beautiful. I find the process to be meditative (calming).
1. Choose a quilt pattern – There are many quilt patterns available, from traditional patchwork designs to modern art quilts. Choose a pattern that suits your skill level and interests. I suggest starting with my Sewspire Summer Surprise Quilt which you can download for FREE 👇 below.
2. Gather your supplies – You will need a sewing machine, scissors, snips, fabric, batting, thread, a rotary cutter, a cutting mat, and a quilting ruler.
3. Cut your fabric – Use the rotary cutter and acrylic quilting ruler to cut the fabric into the shapes specified in the quilt pattern. I offer some helpful tips in my step by step video linked below. So have a look!
4. Sew the pieces together –  using a ÂŒ inch seam allowance, no backstitch, a 90/14 needle and quality cotton thread. I'll cover the nitty gritty details in the video - so no worries. 😉
5. Layer the quilt – otherwise known as a quilt sandwich. đŸ„Ș  Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing fabric. Baste the layers together using safety pins or quilting clips. In a pinch, straight pins are acceptable as you'll see in the segment I recorded for you.
6. Quilt the layers – Quilt the layers together using a walking foot or be rebellious like ME and use a standard 1/4" đŸŠ¶.
7. Bind the edges – Despite what you've heard, binding the edges of the quilt is not difficult.  I'll show you the easy way to bind your quilt in my Quilting Brain Dump video linked below.
8. Attach a product label and enjoy your finished quilt!
