When I first embarked on my sewing journey, I found commercial patterns challenging to decipher. Back then, YouTube wasn't as accessible a resource as it is today. My breakthrough came when I started designing my own bags using simple shapes easily cut with a ruler and mat.
My early bag designs often began with a vision—a rough sketch capturing the essence of what I wanted to create. Even now, I relish the process of putting ideas on paper, as I believe that's a crucial step in bringing any design to life. Until recently, I didn't realize that dimensional drawing might pose a challenge for some, so this week, I've been experimenting in that realm and am excited to share the results.

These sketches are designed to complement my tutorials for the Waxed Canvas Messenger Bag, Ultimate Ziptop Diaper Bag, Market Tote Bag, Drawstring Tote Bag, and Duffel Bag (linked below). They're perfect for jotting down measurements, making alterations, and planning color schemes. I like to tape swatches of fabric onto the sketches. Similarly, you can embrace our sustainability theme by working digitally, inserting photos of fabrics and other inspirations around the white space, just as I've done.
I would love to hear your thoughts on these sketches and whether you find them valuable in your creative process. Your feedback is appreciated!
❤️ Andrea
